A Week in Colonial Williamsburg

Posted on May 13, 2023August 19, 2023

Colonial Williamsburg is a really fun place, but there are some things to know before going. The first day we were there it was blazing hot. Most of the building are the original or have some alterations, but it feels like you are in the 1700s. After exploring around, we had gotten really hungry, and the only place we could find was a tavern place but it was completely full. We did not know that there was a square on the other side of colonial Williamsburg, and it had plenty of good restaurants. We were staying in our RV at a campground near Colonial Williamsburg.

The campground we stayed at had a really nice pool, and a bouncy pillow. Another thing to note is that everything at Williamsburg is super expensive. I really wanted to but a costume, but the authentic ones were about $600 if you wanted a full outfit. But there was also lots of great history. We did the haunted ghost tour, which was interesting. We got to go into some houses, and there was also some pretty good story’s.

You can pay to do a twenty minute ride in a horse drawn carriage, so it made it more realistic with horse carriages going around. In a big open lawn space there was some old fashion games that you could play. One of them was called houp and stick. It is where you hit a houp with a wooden stick and try to keep it rolling as long as you can by hitting it. It was a lot harder than it looked.

We also got to tour the governors mansion, where Thomas Jefferson lived for a short period of time as the governor. Behind the governors mansion was a beautiful garden with super cool flowers! At the square at the end of the road that goes through Colonial Williamsburg, there is a super awesome candy shop that has all of the best candy.

We also did a fun interactive play thingy where it was a witch trial, and you deicide if she is guilty or not guilty.

We always packed snacks for the days that we went to Colonial Williamsburg, so that we were not always having to stop at restaurants to get food. I did not buy anything because of how expensive everything was. I had a lot of fun in Colonial Williamsburg, and hope to visit it again.
