There has been a lot of rain. When we were driving back from dinner, there was about two feet of water. Some smaller cars were stranded above their tires. On the second day, we went to a trampoline park, but there was two inches of water in some places on the trampolines. We still had lots of fun.
The hike to Karekare waterfall
The next morning, we felt good about going out on a hike to a waterfall, but as soon as we drove away, it started dumping down rain. We went along this super windy road with parts of it fallen off. We also came to a spot with a road-closed sign. Hiking in the rain was actually really fun and so pretty.
More beaches
It had initially cleared up when we had gotten to the waterfall, but now it started raining again. We headed back to the car, and right as we got in it just let it all out. It was like we were driving through the waterfall the whole time. We were also going to go to an Elton Jhon concert, his very last, but then it got canceled because of the rain. That was a bummer. After the waterfall we went to a black sands beach, where the sand is black. I thought that I was as wet as I could be, but no. We had to walk on the path which just happened to be right on the side line of the coast guard roof, so it was like walking through a really long, cold shower.
The sand on the beach was really warm, and we staid there for a while. Next we went to a beach with a lot of surfers, and we also for the first time got real fruit ice cream. It was SO tasty. After that we went back.
