Today we were going to do a tour of the Bo Kaap area. That was the area that had all the colorful houses that are seen in photos.
We were walking to the place we were going to meet our guide. It was a coffee shop called Bo Kaap Deli. We had some extra time, so we stopped at a cool 3-D art shop, which had a sculpture of person diving. The store did not have a name because it was a local thing. This is the art shop right next to it, the art shop is cool too, but I would recommend the 3-D art shop next to it. The name is Art du Cap. When we arrived, he was not there, but then he came waking up. His name was Zach. He was a Muslim and would tell us all about the history of the mosques, which were Muslim churches.
He told us the city wanted to expand onto all the houses there. They were built by the first enslaved people who came to Cape Town, so they were super old. Also, they were beautiful, and if they expanded the city, then all of the Bo Kaap neighborhood would be destroyed. Not only would all the people there lose their homes, but people like Zach would also lose their jobs as tour guides. He took us to his mother’s house, and we had a delicious snack of gluten-free samosas and some tasty fruit jam balls. My mom had a call right after the tour, so while she did, that we went to the art shop that we had visited before. We returned to the Bo Kaap Deli, and mom finished her work call there. The tour was great, and I learned a lot of awsome information from it.
